Columbia Soccer Camps

Columbia, Maryland is one of the principal cities of the Baltimore metropolitan area. Located in Howard County, it is a planned community with 10 self-contained villages. Ranked in the top ten of CNN Money’s Best Places to Live in the country for several years in a row, Columbia boasts historic buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places such as Dorsey Hall and Woodlawn, which were once the homes of prominent Howard County citizens in the town’s earlier days. With just under 100,000 residents, Columbia also includes breathtaking natural sites such as Patapsco Valley State Park, which extends along 32 miles of the Patapsco River, spanning 16,043 acres and eight developed recreational areas perfect for hiking, fishing, camping, canoeing, horseback riding and mountain biking. Nationally known for its trails and scenery, there are more than 200 miles of trails. Wilde Lake, a man-made drainage reservoir just north and west of the Columbia Town Center is also a popular spot for residents and tourists.

So you see, Columbia has many opportunities for being active and training outside. That’s why it’s a perfect location for our renowned soccer camp. Coerver® United has been providing a winning global coaching program inspired by the teachings of Wiel Coerver and created by Alfred Galustian and Charlie Cooke for over three decades. We have recruited only the best soccer Coerver United coaches to successfully support our young soccer players. To ensure quality, we have a player to coach ratio of approximately 6:1. This way individual skills and small group play are developed effectively.

As new curriculum is developed, and new games and exercises are introduced by Coerver United coaches across the world, our experienced coaches are frequently trained. The camps primarily teach the individual skills that will yield the best results for each player. Proper fundamental skills are also taught before moving forward with advanced skills.

Endorsed and recommended by top federations, associations, club teams and corporations including the French Football Federation, Chinese Football Association, Newcastle United FC and global sponsor Adidas, our main objective is to do as follows:

  • Develop skilled, confident and creative players
  • Make the game fun to practice and play
  • Teach good sportsmanship and respect for all
  • Value winning but not more than character and performance
  • Provide a safe & educational experience that meets best practice criteria

Coerver United also does not let the winter months get in the way of training which is why we have indoor soccer for some of our programs. Some of these seasonal programs include:

First Skills – Developed for ages 2-5, these classes are 30 minutes long and have a player to coach ratio of approximately 8-1. Fun is the central theme during all sessions as skills are introduced and practiced. These young players get to experience the game in a way that fosters physical and social development and improves coordination, confidence and skill.

Performance Academy – For ages 12-14, this program is specifically for those players who are looking to improve their individual skills. Great for all levels of players, the focus is placed on individual skill development and our 4 core move sets with the goal of developing confidence on the ball.

When it comes to summer camp, two types of week-long camps we host are Advanced and Ball Mastery.

Advanced level summer camp is available to players 10 years or older. Players are taught more complicated moves and they are placed into competitive environments with an emphasis on 1v1 and 2v2 play in the morning. Small group tactics are also taught and small-sided games are played featuring fast break attack and counter attacks.

Ball Mastery camps are for those between 6 and 11 years of age. Emphasis is on individual skill development and basic moves with the goal of developing confidence on the ball. Beginning “move sets” are taught and games are played to practice the moves in a method that starts with no pressure and slowly adds the pressure of time and/or space restrictions. Then passive defensive pressure is added and by the end of the first morning, players are performing moves under full defensive pressure to goal. Results are recorded each day and a finals competition is held on the last day of camp. Group champions are recognized at our award ceremony on Friday afternoon.
