Soccer Summer Camp in Virginia
“Nature’s peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees.” Environmental philosopher John Muir could not have worded his love for our national parks and wilderness any better. It’s also a big part of what we enjoy about living and working in Virginia, which stretches from the Chesapeake Bay to the Appalachian Mountains, which includes the tallest mountain being Mount Rogers, at 5,729 feet. With 30 National Park Service units, such as Great Falls Park and the Appalachian Trail, and one national park, the Shenandoah National Park, that are part of the 34 Virginia state parks and 17 state forests, run by the Department of Conservation and Recreation and the Department of Forestry, there are so many opportunities to get outside. As one of the 13 original colonies, the “Old Dominion” is also bursting with several historic landmarks including Monticello, which was founding father Thomas Jefferson’s Charlottesville plantation, as well as the Jamestown Settlement and Colonial Williamsburg, now living-history museums reenacting Colonial and Revolutionary-era life.
It is no wonder that our highly-skilled coaches at Coerver United find such inspiration from the great outdoors offered here in beautiful Virginia. Our soccer camp trainees also appreciate the fresh air and turf they are trained on. If you’ve been considering having your child take advantage of being active outside, why not register him or her for soccer camp? We even train indoors during the winter season. It’s a great sport for team building and with several locations throughout the Mid-Atlantic Region, Coerver® United would be a wonderful choice. Established in 1984, our successful global coaching program was inspired by Wiel Coerver’s teachings and created by Alfred Galustian and Charlie Cooke. We have a highly-regarded program because we recruit only the best Coerver United soccer coaches to effectively train your children to reach their potential on and off the field. We further achieve this by having a player to coach ratio of approximately 6:1 so that we can hone in on developing individual skills as well as small group play.
To attain the highest quality coaching possible, we train our skilled coaches often as new curriculum is developed, and new games and exercises are introduced by Coerver United coaches from around the world. The emphasis in on teaching the individual skills that will create great success for each player. It begins with proper fundamental skills and ends with advanced skills.
Endorsed and recommended by several top federations, associations, club teams and corporations including the French Football Federation, Chinese Football Association, Newcastle United FC and global sponsor Adidas, our goal is to do as follows:
- Develop skilled, confident and creative players
- Make the game fun to practice and play
- Teach good sportsmanship and respect for all
- Value winning but not more than character and performance
- Provide a safe & educational experience that meets best practice criteria
Some of our programs also offer indoor training during wintertime. Some of these seasonal programs include:
First Skills – Developed for ages 3-7, these classes are 30 minutes long and have a player to coach ratio of approximately 1:10. Fun is the central theme during all sessions as skills are introduced and practiced. These young players get to experience the game in a way that fosters physical and social development and improves coordination, confidence and skill.
Performance Academy – For ages 7-14, this program is specifically for those players who are looking to improve their individual skills. Great for all levels of players, the focus is placed on individual skill development and our 4 core move sets with the goal of developing confidence on the ball.
As summer camps go, two types of week-long camps we host are Advanced and Ball Mastery.
Advanced level summer camp is available to players 10 years or older. Players are taught more complicated moves and they are placed into competitive environments with an emphasis on 1v1 and 2v2 play in the morning. Small group tactics are also taught and small-sided games are played featuring fast break attack and counter attacks.
Ball Mastery camps are for children between 6 and 11 years of age. Emphasis is on individual skill development and basic moves with the goal of developing confidence on the ball. Beginning “move sets” are taught and games are played to practice the moves in a method that starts with no pressure and slowly adds the pressure of time and/or space restrictions. Then passive defensive pressure is added and by the end of the first morning, players are performing moves under full defensive pressure to goal. Results are recorded each day and a finals competition is held on the last day of camp. Group champions are recognized at our award ceremony on Friday afternoon.
