Soccer Summer Camp in Maryland

Maryland, Soccer Summer Camps - Coerver UnitedBaltimore Ravens. Washington Redskins. John Hopkins University. These are just a few of the most common things people think of as it relates to the state of Maryland. And while we are proud of these NFL teams and this institution of great distinction, we know there is so much more to appreciate about this Mid-Atlantic state. With abundant waterways and coastlines on the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Ocean, its largest city, Baltimore is home to Fort McHenry, which is the birthplace of the U.S. national anthem. Other destinations of interest also include Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park which was established in 1961 as a National Monument by President Dwight D. Eisenhower to preserve the remains of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal and most of its original structures. For beach lovers, Ocean City on the Atlantic Coast is a popular beach destination, especially since the Chesapeake Bay Bridge connects the Eastern Shore to more populated Maryland cities. You see, there is so much history and nature to take in and you can do so by walking, which became the official state exercise ten years ago. As a matter of fact, Maryland is actually the first state with an official state exercise.

And because all of us here at Coerver United are all about encouraging exercise, our soccer camp could not be in a more fitness and family friendly place. You may consider enrolling your child in soccer as it is a safe sport in comparison to other sports and you may even be overwhelmed with the list of soccer camps you search online. But what may help you narrow down your choices is knowing that Coerver® United was established in 1984 as a successful global coaching program inspired by Wiel Coerver’s teachings and created by Alfred Galustian and Charlie Cooke. We pride ourselves in recruiting the best soccer Coerver United coaches to support our players, your children. We believe in having a player to coach ratio of approximately 6:1 so we can better focus on developing individual skills as well as small group play.

Our coaches are consistently being trained every time a new curriculum, new games and new exercises are developed by other Coerver United coaches all over the world. Our camps remain steadfast in their approach in teaching individual and team skills that in turn produce and promote the greatest success.  Our approach is simple, we focus on the proper fundamental skills and then move on to more advance skills.

Endorsed and recommended by top federations, associations, club teams and corporations including the French Football Federation, Chinese Football Association, Newcastle United FC and global sponsor Adidas, our main objective is to do as follows:

  • Develop skilled, confident and creative players
  • Make the game fun to practice and play
  • Teach good sportsmanship and respect for all
  • Value winning but not more than character and performance
  • Provide a safe & educational experience that meets best practice criteria

Coerver United also does not let the winter months get in the way of training which is why we have indoor soccer for some of our programs. Some of these seasonal programs include:

First Skills – Developed for ages 3-7, these classes are 30 minutes long and have a player to coach ratio of approximately 1:10. Fun is the central theme during all sessions as skills are introduced and practiced. These young players get to experience the game in a way that fosters physical and social development and improves coordination, confidence and skill.

Performance Academy – For ages 7-14, this program is specifically for those players who are looking to improve their individual skills. Great for all levels of players, the focus is placed on individual skill development and our 4 core move sets with the goal of developing confidence on the ball.

When it comes to summer camp, two types of week-long camps we host are Advanced and Ball Mastery.

Advanced level summer camp is available to players 10 years or older. Players are taught more complicated moves and they are placed into competitive environments with an emphasis on 1v1 and 2v2 play in the morning. Small group tactics are also taught and small-sided games are played featuring fast break attack and counter attacks.

Ball Mastery camps are for those between 6 and 11 years of age. Emphasis is on individual skill development and basic moves with the goal of developing confidence on the ball. Beginning “move sets” are taught and games are played to practice the moves in a method that starts with no pressure and slowly adds the pressure of time and/or space restrictions. Then passive defensive pressure is added and by the end of the first morning, players are performing moves under full defensive pressure to goal. Results are recorded each day and a finals competition is held on the last day of camp. Group champions are recognized at our award ceremony on Friday afternoon.
