Soccer Summer Camp in Delaware

Delaware Soccer Summer Camps - Coerver UnitedIn Delaware, a small Mid-Atlantic state on a level plain and on a peninsula marked by dune-backed beaches bordering the Atlantic Ocean, Delaware River and Delaware Bay, there are so many reasons to be active, even during the winter months. Bicycling is the state’s sport, after all. Can you imagine taking in the rich history and awe-inspiring architecture and parks here as you ride throughout the capital of Dover?  While there you definitely would not want to miss the First State Heritage Park which boasts 18th-century Colonial landmarks such as the Georgian-style Old State House. Delaware may be the second-smallest state in the nation, but it’s certainly big on wildlife refuges, state parks including Seashore State Park, lighthouses, beaches and other historic sites like Fort Delaware.  It is a beautiful place to explore and be active.

And since we are on the topic of staying active, there is something else that families new to Delaware would be happy about for their kids. Soccer camp! There are dozens of soccer camps throughout the state, but Coerver® United is second to none with a successful global coaching program inspired by the teachings of Wiel Coerver and created by Alfred Galustian and Charlie Cooke. Since 1984, we have recruited only the best of the best soccer Coerver United coaches to effectively support our players, your children. As a matter of fact, we believe in having a player to coach ratio of approximately 6:1. This way we can better focus on developing individual skills as well as small group play.

Our highly skilled coaches are being trained often as new curriculum is developed, and new games and exercises are introduced by Coerver United coaches from all over the world. The camps focus on teaching the individual skills that will produce great success for each player. First, we focus on proper fundamental skills and then we move on to advanced skills.

Endorsed and recommended by top federations, associations, club teams and corporations including the French Football Federation, Chinese Football Association, Newcastle United FC and global sponsor Adidas, our main objective is to do as follows:

  • Develop skilled, confident and creative players
  • Make the game fun to practice and play
  • Teach good sportsmanship and respect for all
  • Value winning but not more than character and performance
  • Provide a safe & educational experience that meets best practice criteria

Coerver United also does not let the winter months get in the way of training which is why we have indoor soccer for some of our programs. Some of these seasonal programs include:

First Skills – Developed for ages 3-7, these classes are 30 minutes long and have a player to coach ratio of approximately 1:10. Fun is the central theme during all sessions as skills are introduced and practiced. These young players get to experience the game in a way that fosters physical and social development and improves coordination, confidence and skill.

Performance Academy – For ages 7-14, this program is specifically for those players who are looking to improve their individual skills. Great for all levels of players, the focus is placed on individual skill development and our 4 core move sets with the goal of developing confidence on the ball.

When it comes to summer camp, two types of week-long camps we host are Advanced and Ball Mastery.

Advanced level summer camp is available to players 10 years or older. Players are taught more complicated moves and they are placed into competitive environments with an emphasis on 1v1 and 2v2 play in the morning. Small group tactics are also taught and small-sided games are played featuring fast break attack and counter attacks.

Ball Mastery camps are for those between 6 and 11 years of age. Emphasis is on individual skill development and basic moves with the goal of developing confidence on the ball. Beginning “move sets” are taught and games are played to practice the moves in a method that starts with no pressure and slowly adds the pressure of time and/or space restrictions. Then passive defensive pressure is added and by the end of the first morning, players are performing moves under full defensive pressure to goal. Results are recorded each day and a finals competition is held on the last day of camp. Group champions are recognized at our award ceremony on Friday afternoon.

Many of our all-star soccer players have gone on to play at the University of Delaware on the newly renovated Stuart & Suzanne Grant Stadium. It is with great pride that we celebrate the University of Delaware division 1 men’s soccer program for ranking 23 out of 191 schools in the 2017 National Student-Athlete Rankings for division 1 men’s soccer. They’ve maintained this ranking for 2 consecutive years.  As for the women’s soccer roster, this year the team has an impressive lineup including Sara D’Appolonia, three-time All-State and All-Conference selection (2015-17) and United Soccer Coaches All-American selection in 2017.
